On December 26, 2004, the most devastating tsunami[1] of recent history, generated by an earthquake measuring nearly 9.0 on the Richter scale, ravaged the coastal, south central Asian countries of Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India. Scores of thousands have perished. Countless others have been injured, and / or are without food, shelter, and basic life necessities.

This webquest is designed to help us to better understand some important aspects related to the tsunami, including the causes and effects of this devastating tsunami. It will also focus on the local and international efforts underway to deal with the ongoing recovery process, while exploring the Jewish understanding of tzedaka[2], tragedy and suffering.
