מסכת שבת דף לא עמוד א |
| On another
occasion it happened that a certain non-Jew
|
שוב מעשה בנכרי אחד
|
| came before
Shammai |
שבא לפני שמאי |
| and said to him,
‘Make me a convert, on condition |
אמר לו:
גיירני על מנת |
| that you teach
me the whole Torah |
שתלמדני כל
התורה כולה |
| while I stand on
one foot.' |
כשאני עומד
על רגל אחת.
י |
| Thereupon he
chased him away with the
yardstick which was in his hand. |
דחפו באמת
הבנין שבידו.
י |
|
He went before Hillel, |
בא לפני הלל |
|
and he converted him. |
גייריה.
י |
|
[Hillel]
said to him, ‘What is hateful to you |
אמר לו דעלך
סני |
| do not to your
neighbour |
לחברך לא
תעביד |
| that is the
whole Torah |
זו היא כל
התורה כולה |
| while the rest
is the commentary on it. |
ואידך
- פירושה הוא.
