Introduction
This webquest is to help students in 4th-6th grades draw their thoughts and
feelings into the daily prayers that they say. I used the prayer of Ashrei
as the focal point.

Aim
My aim
was to
point out to the students that many of the requests they would pray to G-d
for are actually contained in the Tefilos themselves if they would only
look more carefully.

Rationale
Once students have learned to pray in the first few years of
school, they tend to start saying the prayers (Tefilos) by heart,
and
stop thinking about what they mean or why they are saying them. They
"space" out and put little or no feeling into what they are
saying. Also, they rarely see their efforts in school being useful
for
others. Through this webquest I hope that they will see the
relevance of what they are saying, and that their efforts are helpful to
others.

Goals and Objectives

Audience
This curriculum is for 4-6th grade students in Jewish day schools. It
could also be adopted for Hebrew schools who meet a few times a week.

Prerequisites
Knowledge of reading the Tefilos properly is somewhat important, as well as a
grade-level ability in reading and understanding English. Knowledge of a
computer keyboard is helpful, as well as moving around a web environment.
Teacher will have to assess the class to determine if a brief training
class will be necessary.

Subject-Matter
The content is based on the Tefila of Ashrei, which has been
translated for the target grade levels of this webquest. The students will
also be led to stories and other information about Tefila to assist them
in getting in touch with their feelings.

Instructional Plan
The students will be told that the 4th grade teacher asked me for some
help. His boys aren't showing much interest in Tefila. I am asking them,
the 5th grade boys, for some help in making a presentation about the
relevance of Tefila to present to the 4th grade boys. Our hope is that the
presentation will inspire both classes.
The students will be directed to the Tefila of Ashrei to really find out
what it is talking about, and compare its subject matter to subjects
and/or requests which are important to them individually.
After finishing their written or artistic presentation to each
other in the classroom, they will present their work to the 4th grade
class in our school.

Assessment and
EvaluationEach student will be
evaluated in 2 ways:
1. individual effort and completeness of assignment on
his chart and presentation
2. his participation in the group presentation,
including behavior while others are presenting their part, and while they are
gathering their information in the computer lab.
3. how well he followed directions
