QUEST
of the 12 TRIBES Quest of the 12 Tribes is a group activity that puts students in "the seat of history". Students will be assigned to 1 of the 12 Tribes of Israel. Each tribe will encounter a series of obstacles in their attempt to remain a united nation. When they fail, each tribe will have to decide whether to join the Northern Kingdom of Israel or the Southern Kingdom of Judea based on their own best interests. Students will identify the effects of this fracture and uncover the fates of the two newly formed Kingdoms. Students will recognize how our people faltered when divided. The division of the 12 Tribes is a turning point in Jewish history
that led to the transformation of Jewish
culture and the destruction of Solomon's Temple, the focal point of
Jewish worship. Students who study Ancient Jewish History can use
Quest
of the 12 Tribes as a tool for
connecting the first and second Temple periods, exploring the
consequences of failing to resolve our differences, and recognizing the
dangers of remaining a fractured nation.
Quest of the 12 Tribes is specifically designed for 4th and 5th grade students of Ancient Jewish History. For students to use Quest of the 12 Tribes, they must
possess some basic understanding of the first Temple period.
Students must know who King David was, and that he was responsible for
uniting the 12 Tribes of Israel into one kingdom. They must
understand the idea that our people thrived as a unified nation.
Students must know who King Solomon was, and that he was responsible for
building the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. They must understand the
purpose of the Temple and its significance to the Jewish people.
