Home Pilgrims Miriam Recipes Resources

Now it's the 21st century and Miriam is excited because her mother has asked her to help in preparing for Thanksgiving. She even gets to take part in planning the menu and the decorations. She knows that the meal must be Kosher, but she wonders about what else she could do to make the Thanksgiving feast extra special. Her family had a wonderful time at Sukkot this year - the stars were bright in the clear skies and the sukka decorations so beautiful - maybe Thanksgiving could be a little like Sukkot. Miriam decided to make a chart comparing the holidays to get some ideas for her Thanksgiving  plan.

YOUR TASK

You and your partner will make a poster comparing Sukkot and Thanksgiving. First you must do a little research and take some notes. You and your partner decide which three topics you will research, then you will do the research and take some notes. Click on NOTES  and print out the note- taking guide. Click on the pictures below to do the research. Here are your topics:

bullet

Guests - who do we invite? Are there any symbolic visitors to our meals?

bullet

Decorations - what do these decorations mean?

bullet

Blessings - Be sure to include them all!

bullet

What is the religious component of the holiday?

bullet

What is the history behind the holiday?

bullet

Meals. What are the typical foods and is there a particular way that we eat those meals?

When you have finished your research, you and your partner will collaborate to make a poster illustrating the differences in all six areas.
