Managing Your Favorites

What are "Favorites"?

Anyone using the Internet is acquainted with the term know as "Favorites" in Internet Explorer.  Favorites are a quick convenient way to save and retrieve a location (URL) that you are interested in returning to at a later time.  This site was created as a guide to describe how to save and organize your favorites.

 

  • Click Favorites on the toolbar menu

  • Choose "Add to Favorite"

  • Select "New Folder" (A new window will appear)

  • Type in a catagory  name for the Folder you would like to create

  • When you add new favorites

  • Scroll and highlight the Folder you would like to save site your viewing

Exporting Files

  • In Internet Explorer go to File at the top of the menu bar

  • Select Import and Export

  • The Import Export Wizard box will appear

  • Click Next

  • The below widow will appear

  • Highlight Export Favorites

  • Click Next

  • A new window will appear

  • Select the Favorites folder to move all your bookmarks (or the individual folder that you which to Export)

  • Click next

  • The following window will appear

  • Click on the Browse button

  • Select where you want to export files

  • Click Next

  • Click Finish and the hyperlinks are saved in that file

  • Open the folder that you exported your Favorites to (It should be the Bookmarks folder in your documents)

  • You should now have a page that names all your Favorites as a Hotlist with clickable Hyperlinks

 

 

 

 

Publishing Your Favorites to the Web

  • While your new Favorites page is open Click on the FrontPage icon on the tool bar menu of Internet Explorer (see circled icon below) It will change colors when you click on it.

Now that you are in Front Page and have edit your page, you are ready to publish

  • Click on File in the tool bar

  • Select Publish Web

  • The following window will appear

  • Enter your publish destination: http://jwit.webinstituteforteachers.org/~username/favorites

  • Click OK

  • Another window will open

  • Click on the Publish button

  • You are done and can view your new webpage
